It has become something many of us in Alanya look forward to: the annual International Christmas Market. This ‘Noel Pazarı’ in Turkish, is the perfect day to get into the holiday spirit. It’s the place for buying original Christmas gifts and for learning about Alanya’s many associations. It’s the place for eating and drinking to your hearts content. And it’s the place for meeting up with friends, listen to Christmas carols and last but not least: enjoying the Christmassy atmosphere.
10 December 2017
This year, the annual International Alanya Christmas Market will take place on 10 December 2017. It will be the 8th edition of this fair that has become one of the region’s most popular events. For many years the Christmas Market was held in front of the waterfall in Alanya’s harbour. But as the event got more and more popular with every edition, the market was necessarily set up at the area behind the municipality building. That was three years ago and still every year more and more people join or visit the fair.
Associations of foreigeners in Alanya
On the day of the Alanya Christmas Market, thousands of visitors will stroll by dozens of festively decorated stalls. These stalls are staffed with representatives of restaurants, shops, associations, clubs etc. from all over Alanya. And the Christmas Market is especially popular for associations of foreigners living in Alanya to present themselves and to promote their culture and food. This year again the Nordik, Ukraine, Polish, Russian, German, Danish and Litvanian organizations will attend. Also the German church association and the Russian Orthodox church association will have a stall.
The choice of items you can find on the Alanya Christmas Market is endless. For example: some sell handicraft like handmade Christmas decorations or accessories, others sell local souvenirs. In some stalls you’ll find traditional Turkish food, in others you can taste dishes from various other countries. Furthermore, some people are attending the Christmas Market to give information about their work or projects. While others rent a stall to sell goods from their shops or company.
Anyway, it’s a colorful and special happening. Most of all, let’s not forget the large, modern Christmas Tree in the middle of the square. It will light up beautifully in the evening. Only the sight of that is already worth a visit!
